Introduction to Pliers: The Handymans Primary Do-It-Yourself Tool

Pliers are two-arm pliers used for cutting, clamping and bending pieces of various materials, modeling conductors or twisting pieces of different materials. It is an essential tool for working on electronic assemblies.  Pliers cannot be missing inside a toolbox, as it is a primary tool for do-it-yourself.

The area of electricity is the most benefited thanks to its variability. It is used for work ranging from holding cables and modeling them, to reaching and holding elements that are in inaccessible places. For example, insulated pliers of small sizes allow components to be quickly picked up for soldering or un-soldering.

Plier Components

The pliers are structured in three pieces.

There are two confluent elements in the shape of a blade and a containment screw.

In the head are the pliers and it is also distinguishable the jaws or the external parts of the wire cutters.

And finally the insulating handle.

The insulating handle. By specific general rules, pliers are equipped with sleeves for the handle, as is the case with all tools for electronics and electricity.

Types of Pliers

  • Universal pliers: This is a combined plier that have three different parts, one is a solid plier with teeth, and another cutting section.  It is a multipurpose tool that allows you to hold, loosen, cut wires, peel bald, among other tasks.
  • Flat pliers: This one has a square mouth with teeth at the top. Not only are they straight, but they can also be curved or pointed.
  • Round pliers: These are similar to flat pliers, but the pliers of this pliers are two conical pieces and are more used for electricity and costume jewelry, mainly to make ring or wire collars.

Stripping pliers: There are a large number of versions of this type of pliers, and it is used to eliminate the insulating protection of conductors.

Combined pliers: These are pliers that can be used for different purposes because their pliers have different sections that can hold, cut, turn or press cables or cut wires.
